Parking

When you arrive at Coopers Rock State Forest, plan to check-in at the visitor center to pick up a park map and some souvenirs at the gift shop. The lookout is near the park office and is fenced off, providing a safe way to view the Cheat River Gorge. Traveling the road to the campground is long and narrow, and has a very little shoulder. However, you may want to pack leveling blocks just in case since sites are gravel. The campsite can accommodate RVs and trailers up to 40 feet. The campground is first-come, first served, so plan to get here early - especially in the fall - to get your favorite camping site.

Home to 25 sites for RVs and trailers, the options are endless at this popular state park as you camp among the forest’s amazing cliffs. Sites are private and well spaced, while providing electrical hook-ups, a picnic table, and fire ring. At this well-maintained campground, you will find WiFi for campers and central bathhouses that offer hot showers and flush toilets. There is also a water station and dump station for visitors to use during their stay. Pets may join you on your camping adventure but are only allowed within the campground while on a leash. The campground is offering reservations and due to its popularity, you should book your trip early.

Fishing at Coopers Rock State Forest will be a true memory at Coopers Rock Lake. Always a blast to fish for trout, bluegill, and largemouth bass while out on the majestic 6-acre lake, you will want to bring your camera in your camper to capture your next big catch. Whether from your boat or along the shoreline, this relaxing activity is one for anglers of all experience levels. Before you cast your line at Coopers Rock Lake, make sure that you have a current West Virginia fishing license.

Ski Trails

Coopers Rock State Forest is great for all seasons as the area offers three ski trails - Intermediate, Advanced, and Reservoir - to enjoy during the snow. For those wanting a moderate difficulty level, explore the Intermediate Ski Trail and the Reservoir Ski Trail. The Intermediate Ski Trail will connect you to the Advance and Reservoir Ski Trail and is .6 miles in length. Branching from the Advanced Ski Trail, the Reservoir Ski Trail is .8 miles long and will connect you to the Reservoir Loop Trail. If you need a challenge, check out the Advanced Ski Trail that starts at the entrance of the park and runs 2.3 miles long.
