Guilford Lake State Park

One of the attractive sites most RV campers love in Ohio is Guilford Lake State Park. The next time you find yourself close to Canton City with your RV Guilford Lake State Park is a place to be. Guilford has a total land area of 98 acres and about 396 acres of water. The lake was obtained in 1927 by the government initially to construct a reservoir, but it was converted into a park in 1932. The beautiful landscape was previously a swampy area and meaning the park is probably sited on a natural glacier lake, offering an amazing surface for all sorts of camp activities.

If your passion is to hunt for animals, Guilford Lake State Park houses wildlife and several species of birds. Guilford Lake is a perfect destination for swimming and fishing. You'll also enjoy hiking, picnicking, and ice skating if you choose to visit Guilford Lake State Park in your campervan or trailer. If you're visiting during the summer your family can attend all sorts of regularly scheduled events like fishing for kids or group kayaking.

Driving

Guilford Lake State Park is located about halfway between Akron, OH and Pittsburgh, PA. It's easy to access off several major roads such as Highways 30, 9, and 45. And the local roads within the park will lead you to your destination with no problem. Off the road, hiking is another great way of enjoying the features of the wildlife surrounding you.

You can to walk every bit of the camp conveniently and the facilities are not far away from each other. Whether you are in your rig or another vehicle, the park's parking lot is adequate to house your vehicles, even if you are staying overnight. The maximum number of vehicles per site is two. You can also move from one point of the lake to another with the boat or canoe, further adding to the fun.

Reservations Camping
Guilford Lake State Park Campground

The campground comprises about 40 serene spots to park your RV. Each spot has an electricity outlet. At the campground, there are play areas, showers, flush toilets, picnic tables, and fire rings located close to your RV. Also provided is a fishing dock for campers, safe drinking water, and a dump station. The playground is well-equipped with everything needed to keep the fun going for the kids and the adults as well.

It is always advisable to reserve a space prior to your trip to the park for any camping activities. You can as well take your pets along with you but the maximum number allowed is two per family.

Seasonal Actvities in Guilford Lake State Park

In-Season
Boating

Enjoy cruising around Guilford Lake on your boat, as long as it has 10 hp or less. Docks and three launch ramps are available. Don't have a boat? No problem, you can rent canoes, kayaks, and paddle boats. At the southern part of the lake, there is a privately-owned harbor where you can rent power boats.

Swimming

Many of the camp visitors enjoy swimming in the lake but swimming is permitted only in designated areas, where the activities can be monitored. Head on over to the northwest side of the lake where you can splash all day at the 600-foot public swimming beach. The facilities available to offer you a great swimming experience include showers and changing booths. And to further spice up the fun, there are courts for volleyball and horseshoe pits nearby.

Picnicking

The park has eight designated picnic areas, with a table and a grill each. The picnic area is located at various points around the lake where you and your loved ones can have a memorable time. And the grills and tables are located not far away from the beach, which means you can enjoy the beautiful view offered by the lake while you have a wonderful picnic time with your partner or friends. To acquire a picnic spot with your loved ones, it is advisable to make a reservation ahead of the date.



Off-Season
Fishing

With a valid Ohio fishing license, you are permitted to access the fishing pier located at the southern region of the lake. You can also decide to do some fishing while out on the boat. There are different types of fish at Guilford Lake. The most popular types include perch, bluegill, crappie, and channel catfish. Ohio recognizes anglers with noteworthy catches with awards so you should do your best to make remarkable catches on your next fishing expedition at the lake.

Winter Recreation

During the winter period, park visitors can enjoy maximum fun by engaging in ice skating and ice fishing, under proper conditions. A large population of park visitors will love the indoor games provided at the camp office. As this is an off season activity, professional ice skating and ice fishing athletes can take advantage of the winter and low population away from the campsite to focus on their training.

Hunting

If hunting is something you love doing, hunting for waterfowl is something you can do here. At about 20 miles around the park, the forest also houses some other small animals and birds which you can hunt while you explore your shooting skills. However, hunting activities at the park are guided by the Ohio hunting laws. During some periods, blinds are provided on a first-come, first-served basis to the campers at the park office.
