Dale Hollow Lake State Park

Surrounded by jaw-dropping views of Tennessee, Dale Hollow Lake State Park is an outdoor lover's paradise, featuring 3,400 acres of amazing views of forest-covered hills, and views of plateaus that dot the area. Located not too far from Burkesville, Kentucky, this state park is a must for your next RV recreational outing. You'll have numerous opportunities for outdoor recreation in a unique mountainous landscape. From hiking and fishing to birding and caving, Dale Hollow Lake State Park offers a wide variety of outdoor adventures.

The mountain, plateau, and dam views of Dale Hollow Lake State Park are spectacular, with Dale Hollow Dam and Reservoir covering over 27,000 acres in two states. You will enjoy soaking in the fresh mountain air while being surrounded by unique plant life, including oak trees and other trees native to the area. There are numerous species of birds in the state park and tons of native wildlife, from deer to raccoons.

Once you park your camper at Dale Hollow Lake State Park, you can venture out on one of the many trails dotted around the park. For birdwatchers, there is a dedicated Eagle Point Trail, where you can spot fascinating native birds. The Boom Ridge Trail is a popular route for horseback riding and biking, while Bangor Loop is a more relaxed half-mile trail taking you around the campground. Dale Hollow Lake State Park is a perfect RV destination no matter the time of the year you visit.


Transportation

Driving

Dale Hollow Lake State Park is easy to access by car or RV, since it is located just 15 miles from Burkesville, KY, off of KY 1206. Local roads will take you wherever you wish to go inside the park, from the Lodge and Marina to the campground and trails. There are no driving restrictions for RVs or trailers within the park, so you will be able to get around easily, whether you're in another vehicle or your rig.

Parking

There are several options for parking RVs and trailers, with several lots throughout the park. You'll be able to find spots at the Marina, near the Golf Course, at the Lodge, and near the trails. Of course, you may also park at the campground if you are staying overnight.

Reservations Camping
Dale Hollow Lake State Park Campground

Dale Hollow Lake State Park features 121 pet-friendly campsites available for tents and RVs during the months of May through November. Most campsites provide access to water and electricity. Amenities at this campground include hot showers, restrooms, drinking water, and a dump station and each site has a paved pad, picnic table, and fire pit. You'll be close to the trails and a swimming pool. There is no maximum time length on staying. There is a two-day minimum on peak weekends. Wi-Fi connection is available for a fee at the Campground Booth.

Alternate Camping
Equestrian Campground

If you are bringing your horses with you on your camper trip to Dale Hollow Lake State Park, you can stay overnight at the Equestrian Area. These are reservation sites, and they can accommodate your RV. There are 24 sites available for horses and trailers. These sites provide electricity, water, hitching posts, a fire pit, and a picnic table.

In-Season
Hiking

You'll want to pack an excellent pair of hiking boots since there are five hiking trails to choose from at Dale Hollow Lake State Park that vary in difficulty. If you are looking for an easy stroll or hike, check out Ranger Loop. This is a half-mile trail that takes you around the campground and meets up with Eagle Point connector trail and offers amazing scenery all around you. For a more adventurous hike, trek out on the eight-mile Boom Ridge Trail, which will take you across numerous spurs and off-beat trails. Most of the hiking trails are pet friendly.

Biking

Dale Hollow Lake State Park is a great place to bring your bike and head out onto the trail. Once you park your RV you can cycle down Banger Loop, which is a flat half-mile trail that circles around the campground and great for a short bike ride. Another great biking trail is the eight-mile Boom Ridge Trail, where you can coast along numerous spurs and connect with other rugged trails.

Horseback Riding

If you are an avid equestrian, you will love the opportunity to hit the trail at Dale Hollow Lake State Park. This state park has an equestrian area that will meet your needs if you are bringing your horses in your trailer. There are 24 equestrian sites that can accommodate your RV and offers hitching posts and water available on-site. You can go horseback riding on two of the trails throughout the park and soak in the amazing scenery all around you.

Off-Season
Birding

Dale Hollow Lake State Park is home to numerous unique species of birds, so you will want to make sure you pack your binoculars in your rig. Some of the many birds you may see include Bald Eagles, Wild Turkey, Green Heron, and Scarlet Tanger. Eagle Point Trail is a great place to watch for raptors and waterbirds. Other hotspots for birding are Dale Hollow Lake and along the Boom Ridge-Eagle Point Connector Trail. Make sure you don't miss a trek along the overlook.

Caving

If you want to learn more about the underground wonders of the park, park your rig at the Eagles Point picnic area and check out a Cindy Cave tour. Yes, you will get wet and dirty, while you explore this underground masterpiece. Helmet, light, and kneepads are provided and there is a fee for both adults and children.

Fishing

Dale Hollow Lake State Park features some amazing fishing opportunities just waiting to be taken advantage of during your RV road trip. With 620 miles of shoreline there are plenty of opportunities to reel in a record-breaking muskie or smallmouth bass. Cast your line along the shoals in hops of landing that prized catfish, walleye or trout.
