What happened to all the Snakes in WI?  I used to see tons of them in Waukesha county, I go in some swampy areas fishing and or catching frogs, crawfish, clams, never seen a snake.  Used to see Water Snakes on Ashippun

Thanks SM! She'll be really pretty once she sheds, unfortunately the area gets really hard to herp around June once the vegetation comes up. You'll hear em, but by the time you get close enough to get a pic all you see is a rattle going under a rock.

After church, I went on a brief walk.  Saw 11 snakes and 3 skinks.  This 3 ft fox snake was so docile.  It gave me the brief tail buzz in the dry grass and then let me pick it up with no issue. The belly pattern is so characteristic of the rat snake family (fox, gray rat, corn snake, etc, etc).

NP_G, that dark Timber is particularly pretty, especially with the contrast of the mid-line stripe.  Very nice.

With the columbines come the timbers. Saw a bunch last weekend after a failed morel hunt including this very dark individual that I've observed a few times in the past, all very chill snakes just not wanting to get stepped on. Southwest WI.

This northern water snake professionally identified by Suspended Musky. The resident snakeoligist  was laying on the bottom for over 10 minutes just laying there. I knew there was a snake in area because there were patterns for 20 to 30 feet on the bottom of the sand.

Very nice Fowler.  I would like a porch fox snake.

I got out very briefly today and saw 8 fox snakes and a few other species.  Pics of 3 of the 8.  The first pic is of a 1.5 yr old juvenile, about 18 inches long.  Cute 'lil fella.  The other 2 pics are of sizable adults.

We need NPike_Guy to post a few pics of the interesting SW Wisco snakes; i.e. Timber Rattlesnake, Blue Racer, Gray Rat Snake (fox snake cousin), or a Bullsnake.

Porch snakey out for exercise in the planted field. Good 5ft plus nowadays. I don't get to see it much as the high warm sun is passed by the time I get home.

Went on a brief hike this aft while the sun was still out.  Saw a bunch of snakes and 2 five-lined skinks.  Pic of a large fox snake I found coiled up in the weeds.  Close-up pic with my cell phone down into the vegetation, trying not to disturb it.
